Sometimes, the best musical moments happen outside of the recording studio! Especially here in New Orleans, where live music is pretty much what drives the city. Traditional jazz, funk, metal, singer/songwriters... All this music is often best captured in front of an audience. Also, there are times when a particular room brings out the best in a musical performance. An epic church space, a dark, sticky-floored club, or even the comfortable living room of the performer! Over the years I've done a LOT of "remote" recordings in New Orleans clubs, halls, churches, houses. Some are very simple stereo recordings, most are multitrack pro tools recordings done with my laptop mobile rig, and a few have been pretty epic installations - 100 piece marching band? Usually the recordings get brought back to the studio, where they are tweaked & edited a little, and then get mixed on the console.
There is also the possibility of doing "live recording" events right here in the studio. The big tracking room at House of 1000hz can easily be configured to record a full band, in front of an audience of up to 50 people, making for a great and very controlled environment for recording music in front of an audience.
